The overhauled Acura TL debuts in a highly challenging and competitive market for sport sedans in 2007. A powerful 3.2L V6 engine, better brakes and the many safety gizmos make the best of driving dynamics. The TL prowess speaks for itself with a host of safety features, enticing audio and communication options and neatly finished interiors.

New for 2007, is the reintroduction of the Type-S edition, which boasts of a 3.5L V6 engine with paddle shifters and Brembo Brakes.

Acura's TL is among the few sedans that combine comfort and luxury with a trendy image.

The Acura TL hits the tar with a 258 horsepower (hp) 3.2-liter (L) V6 engine, delivering 233 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque. Buyers get a 5-speed AT standard on the base model. The Acura TL Type-S edition is reintroduced with a 286 horsepower (hp) 3.5-liter (L) V6 engine, delivering 256 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque. Buyers can opt for a 5-speed AT or 6-speed MT.

Fuel economy ratings are an estimated 20/29 mpg (city/highway) on both the 5-speed AT as well as 6-speed MT.

The 2007 Acura TL takes on a wider more aggressive stance, with new styling cues like fog lamps on either side of the air dam. Two inlets or dam for air marks the aggressive front. A honeycombed grille sports the trademark Acura badge on a polished horizontal chrome bar. Narrow headlights with daytime running headlamps hug the front fenders, highlighting the characteristic line adorning the TL's wedge-like profile. Taillights are functional, while square tipped dual exhausts enhance the sporty demeanor.

The Type-S edition comes with many changes in styling especially at the rear, with red-colored taillights and smoked black chrome partitions. Atop the rear trunk lid sits a body colored spoiler. The dual chrome lipped circular exhaust act in tandem with the taillights and spoiler give the Type-S a distinctive look.

Options include 18” chrome look and sparkle silver alloy wheels, front Brembo brakes, a dealer-installed option adds performance springs, shocks, a rear wing spoiler, nose mask and body side moldings.

The Acura TL offers a cabin with a variety of fixtures. Interiors are roomy and comfortable. Leather-trimmed seats are supportive without being overly firm. The ergonomically designed driving position is top-notch with 8-way power adjuster. The LCD screen displays settings for climate control, audio and navigation system.

User-friendly buttons facilitate easy settings for Climate Control. Acura has one of the best navigation systems, with a big display and on-screen menus with accurate descriptions. Music aficionados can enjoy the Acura/ELS surround premium sound system. Storage places are plenty with seatback mounted magazine racks and front door-mounted pockets. The 12.5 cubic feet trunk is fully finished with gooseneck hinges encased to avoid cutting into fragile luggage.

The TL provides a blend of comfort and sport handling, making it an ideal car for young executives. Standard on the Type-S is a 3.5L V6 engine churning 286 hp of power, which when mated to a sport tuned suspension from the house of Acura gives it a racecar feel. A double-wishbone suspension in the front and multi-link double wishbone suspension at the rear, earns this high-performance sedan its stars. Vehicle Stability Assist with traction control is just one of the few attributes that endow the TL with amazing handling and safety.

Seat-mounted side-impact airbags and full-cabin side curtain airbags are standard. LATCH child seat anchors are included. Active safety features include anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist and Vehicle Stability Assist. The TL earned "5-star" rating in NHTSA crash tests.
